Description : Thorn apple, also called gypsum weed and moonflower, is a poisonous plant belonging to the nightshade family. The paste of roasted leaves is applied over the area to relieve pain. It is used as herbal medicine, especially in case of ayurveda for asthma and bonesetting. Its seed are brown, saffron (soil color) and plain that are found inside the fruit.

Constituents : 5.alpha.-Ergosta-7,22-dien-3.beta.-ol (16.53%), 3-Hydroxycholestan-5-yl, acetate (14.97%), and 26,26-Dimethyl-5,24(28)-ergostadien-3.beta.-ol (10.39%). |
Uses : Thorn apple essential oil is used to treat spasm of bronchitis in asthma.It can also used as antiasthmatic, antispasmodic, hypnotic and narcotic.
